Vocabulary - Sentence Completion 2

- Chronological (adj) : following the order in which they occurred.

example: "I arranged the records in chronological order"

- Insufficient (adj): not enough.

example: "The food was insufficient, it wouldn't last us all" 

- Ample (adj): enough or more than enough.

example: "There is ample time to take this test"

- Commended (verb): to praise formally or officially.

example: "The students with the best behavior were commended"

- Encountered (verb): to unexpectedly be faced with or experience something (or someone), to come across.

example: "Our last encounter was quite pleasant"
example: " I hope you don't encounter any issues"

- Ambushed (verb): to make a surprise attack on someone or confront someone unexpectedly.

example: "They were ambushed and taken prisoner by the enemy"
example: "She ambushed me with questions the other day"

- Chastised (verb): to scold someone severely or to punish them.

example: "If you bully someone in class, you will be chastised and kept after school"

- Rival (noun): someone who competes with you in some way, a competitor. 
             (verb): to compete.

example: "He beat his closest rival by 10 points!"
example: "Our beaches could rival any beach in the world"

- Dissent (verb/noun): to differ or have a disagreement in opinion

example: "I dissent altogether from such a terrible idea"
example: "Leaders often try to eliminate dissent amongst their people in order to maintain control"

- Meager (adj): of poor quality or not enough

example: "Did he know how meager her savings were?"

- Tremendous (adj): something wonderful, or something large in size or scale.

example: "Thank you, I think that would be a tremendous help"

- Prosperous (adj): having continued success, fortunate.

example: "It is a prosperous voyage to the ship"
example: "Have a happy and prosperous year"

- Futile (adj): something that won't succeed or is unimportant.

example: "It is futile to try and stop a plane after it has left the ground"
- Admirable (adj): something or someone with positive characteristics worthy of adoration, love or respect.

example: "He seems to have been an admirable teacher, everyone loved him"

- Striking (adj): very beautiful or noticeable

example: "She looked striking at her wedding"

- Marvel (verb): to express or feel wonder, astonishment or surprise. 

example: "She was happy to marvel over her surroundings"

- Enormous (adj): something that is bigger than the usual size.

example: "He had enormous charm and a great sense of humor"

- Grotesque (adj): very ugly or shocking.

example: "The story was too grotesque to believe"

- Phenomenal (adj): extraordinary, highly unusual.

example: "The rocket travels at phenomenal speed"
