- Chang Jiang River: Also known as the "Long River" or the Yangtze, is China's longest river. Civilization in China began along the Huang He and Chang Jiang rivers.
- Terrace Farming: Chinese farmers used Terrace Farming to grow rice. Terraces are platforms of Earth that look like stairs.
- Gobi Desert: Separates China from its neighbors to the North. The Himalayas also separated China from the rest of the world.

- Mandate of Heaven: A belief that the emperor was chosen by heaven to rule. The Zhou believed that the Tian gave a certain people an order to rule.
- Oracle Bones: Turtle shells and other bones used by the Shang Dynasty to tell the future.
- Diviner: Believed they could speak to the Gods and Ancestors. People went to them to predict the future.
- Confucius: Chinese philosopher and teacher. His beliefs, known as Confucianism greatly influenced Chinese life.
- Confucianism: Philosophy that teaches responsibility and moral behavior.
- Heritage: A set of ideas and traditions passed on from one generation to the next.
